Hi all, for those who might not know, today, our own Jamie Wang 👑 is graduating from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School with a B.S. in Finance and Strategic Management 😤😤 and a Computer Science minor👩💻 !!! This is a big deal!! (I think I’ve made Jamie uncomfortable by this intro, but I’ll try to keep this email short haha.)
Above are some of Jamie’s favorite art pieces she has created for Around the Table. 🤩 Although I am not as artistically inclined as Jamie, I am able to use Canva and make a tiny edit to celebrate her graduation :^)
As Jamie mentioned previously, we didn’t become friends until the pandemic hit, BUT before, we were in Turner Social Impact Society together, so I knew she cared about social impact - she was also Co-Director of Hack4Impact at Penn! She spent a lot of time on Wharton Women board, became a DSP bro in the Beta Iota class, and joined APALI (which partly inspired this newsletter I think 🥰). I did not know that Jamie was also involved with Penn Women’s Rugby, Jon Ossoff’s campaign back in 2017, Perry World House, AND Penn’s Civic House :O wow!
I really appreciate how thoughtful, honest, and reflective Jamie is, especially since we’re thinking and talking about societal issues all the time. As I’m sure you can tell, she pours a lot of time into this newsletter (esp. with the art 🎨 ), and I’m so glad that, through this newsletter, I’ve gotten to develop my identity as an Asian American woman and learn so much alongside her. (She was actually the one to reach out to me about starting a newsletter!) She’s become a great friend who is open to chatting about anything really, texts back better than I do, and supports me, which I so appreciate 💖
Jamie - I’m sure you’ll cherish the next several days/weeks with your friends as you celebrate the past 4 years! The last 1.25 of the 4 years were rough and far from the ideal way to end college… but I hope you celebrate yourself as much as possible right now because you deserve it 😊
Congratulations, Jamie!!!! ♥️ Melinda
P.S. As a tiny grad gift to Jamie, how about we ask some people to subscribe to this newsletter?? 💌
